[FIXED] Anyone else suffer random lockups/unrespnsiveness in CMS editor?

Hey community.

Recently when working on a reasonably complex website for a client, I noticed that randomly the whole CMS interface would just lock. I couldn’t save the work, and the only thing that worked was the hamburger menu in the CMS (the one where you find backups etc). At this point, the only way to recover the CMS was to reload the website, obviously losing any work I’d done after the last save.

After testing, I kind of narrowed it down to it being on pages where there is a collections item widget.

My site is quite complex whereby I have a several collections. One, for example, is for all the clinicians at the dental practice. This collection item widget is on the “Team” page, but, I also have created a reference to it on the home page (primarily so I can change the look/feel on the teams page at the client’s request and have this change mirrored eveywhere else, which is, in my opinion, the whole reason for using references!).

The problem I’ve experienced happens randomly. But it does seem to have some correlation to locking the interface when having tabs open in the CMS and editing a page where a collection item is, and then moving content around on the page (usually within the navigator).

Whilst I’ve tried to get to the bottom of this with Martin from support, and following steps like keeping the console open to see if any error messages are logged (which they aren’t) and if my machine in low on memory (which at 32GB is most certainly isn’t), and whether any plugins could affect the CMS (tried running Sitejet in multiple browsers, even in a freshly installed copy of Opera as it’s also Chromium and had no plugins), no progress has been made. I’ve been told this morning that there is essentially nothing more that can be done, and it must be an issue isolated to my specific machine environment - so essentially closing down the support route.

I’d be interested if anyone else has suffered something similar when working with websites that utilise collections. I have not experienced the issue on websites I’ve built that don’t have collections, hence my logic that it must be collection related. If it helps (as I’ve not been asked this by support), I am running on Windows 11, as stated, have 32GB of memory, and running on a an AMD Ryzen 7 8700G with an integrated Radeon 780M Graphics on the CPU which is running at 4200 Mhz, and has 8 Core(s), 16 Logical Processor(s).

Thanks in advance.

Dave
