Autosave Drafts in Sitejet Builder

Hi Sitejet Team :waving_hand:

It would be incredibly helpful to have an autosave feature within the Sitejet Builder. Right now, any accidental browser refresh, crash, or timeout can result in lost work — which can be really frustrating when building complex sections or working on client sites.

Suggested behavior:

  • Automatically save changes every 30–60 seconds in the background.
  • Show a small “Last saved X seconds ago” notice.
  • Ideally keep version history or snapshots we can revert to if needed.

This would be a major productivity booster and add some peace of mind — especially for teams or freelancers working quickly. Would love to see this added!

Thanks :folded_hands:

Accessing and Using the Backup Manager

  • Open the Backup Manager:

  • Click the burger menu (three horizontal lines at the top left of the editor).

  • Select “Backups” from the menu that appears on the left.

  • View Available Backups:

  • The Backup Manager displays a list of all available backups.

  • The most recent backup (including automatic saves) is always at the top of the list.

  • Restore a Backup:

  • Click the “Restore” button next to the backup you want to use.

  • A dialog will open, allowing you to select which components to restore (e.g., website, specific collections).

  • Check the boxes for the elements you wish to restore.

  • Click “OK” to confirm.

  • Wait for Restoration:

  • The editor will load the selected backup version. Do not close your browser tab during this process.

How Automatic Saves Work

  • Frequency:
  • Automatic backups are created every 5–10 minutes while you are actively editing in the website editor.
  • These backups are snapshots of your website at a specific point in time.
  • Retention:
  • The system retains the last backup of each hour for the last 24 hours, the last backup of each day for the last 7 days, and the last backup of each week for the last 52 weeks.
  • If the maximum of 400 backups is reached, the oldest version is deleted.
  • Manual Backups:
  • You can also create and name manual backups at any time.
  • Manual backups are not deleted based on time intervals, but only when the maximum number of backups is exceeded.

Hi @Smad_L_Amoreaux thanks a lot for the detailed reply!
Thanks so much for the detailed reply and the breakdown on how the Backup Manager and autosave system works — that was super helpful to see! :folded_hands:

It’s great to know that automatic backups are already happening every 5–10 minutes in the background while we edit. The layered retention system (hourly, daily, weekly) is also a thoughtful touch for long-term project safety. Major kudos for already having that in place! :rocket:

That said, I think there’s still a bit of room to fine-tune the experience, especially when it comes to real-time peace of mind during editing.

In modern builders like Webflow or Framer, autosaves typically happen every 30 seconds or less — and they often display a small “Saved X seconds ago” message. This tiny UX detail makes a huge difference when working on client projects, complex sections, or when you’re moving quickly and want to avoid any guesswork about what’s saved.

A few ideas that could make Sitejet even smoother:

  • :sparkles: Shorten the autosave window to every 30–60 seconds (from 5–10 minutes) so less progress is lost if something goes wrong.
  • :eyes: Add a subtle “Last saved…” indicator somewhere in the UI, just to reassure users that things are safely stored.
  • :card_index_dividers: Optional version labels or tags for backups could help with organization — especially useful when handing off or iterating with teams.

I know these might sound like small touches, but they really add up to a smoother and more confident building experience.

Thanks again for taking the time to listen and for the awesome work we can do with Sitejet. Loving the direction — just wanted to share this feedback in case it’s helpful as the platform continues improving :flexed_biceps:
