On June 28, 2025, the European Accessibility Act (EAA) will come into effect.
This EU-wide legislation makes digital accessibility mandatory. The goal: to ensure equal access to digital products and services for people with long-term physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory impairments.
Why does this matter to us?
Even though WebPros (and therefore Sitejet) is legally based in Switzerland and the US, we offer products within the EU market – which means the EAA also applies to us. Just like with the GDPR, we must ensure our products are compliant in order to continue operating lawfully within the EU.
What does this mean for you as a Sitejetter?
Websites are not covered by a transitional period – which means: All websites used for business purposes created with Sitejet must be accessible starting June 28, 2025. 
We’re making sure that Sitejet provides the necessary tools to build accessible websites – both technically and editorially. This includes, for example:
- semantic HTML structures
- screen reader support
- sufficient color contrast
- alternative text for media
- keyboard navigation
We are aligning our efforts with the European standard EN 301 549, which is based on the WCAG 2.1 guidelines (Level AA).What are we implementing right now?
- Option to add alternative text to video elements
- Alternative text for SVG and icon elements
- Alt text for collection-bound gallery images
- “Skip to main content” link
- Alt text for iFrames
- Improved keyboard accessibility
- ARIA role and attribute support
- Improved semantic HTML
- “Accessibility statement” pages in all templates
- Remove attribute id=“isPasted”
We’re also turning our current accessibility help article into a dedicated category where we’ll explain the topic in more detail and provide concrete implementation tips for the Website Builder.
We have also decided to add a dedicated new category into this community called “compliance” where you all can discuss and provide value information for all Sitejetters about any rules and regulations regarding your websites.
Please be advised to always provide a useful source and refrain from giving legal advice. We also strongly recommend to approach these topics as factual and reflected as possible. We will monitor this category closely and will take immediate actions. Please always make sure to name the region for any information you provide.
At the moment, we do not plan to develop our own tool to test whether websites meet legal accessibility requirements.
We’re also not aware of any official checker planned by the EU or German authorities. If you have any great tools that you are already using, please let us know in the comments and we will add these here.
As of now, we are not planning a tool like Digitale Barrierefreiheit mit Eye-Able® - Eye-Able that you can implement natively in the website.**What’s your responsibility as a website creator?
While Sitejet ensures the technical foundation, you are responsible for using these features correctly:
- Structure content clearly and logically
- Use descriptive alternative text for images
- Ensure sufficient contrast and readability
- Regularly test your pages with accessibility tools
Note: EAA compliance is not a nice-to-have – it’s a legal requirement. Non-compliance can result in significant fines or removal from the market, depending on the country. If you need to know more, we recommend doing research for your specific region and get legal advice in case of questions.
What else is happening at WebPros?
Other WebPros products (e.g. Plesk Store, cPanel Store, WHMCS, etc.) are also being prepared for accessibility – in most cases, these have transitional periods until June 28, 2030. However, our websites, public videos, and web builders (Sitejet & Web Presence Builder) must be compliant now. Technically, the Website Builder is not target of EAA.

Das bedeutet: Digitale Barrierefreiheit wird EU-weit Pflicht. Ziel ist es, dass Menschen mit körperlichen, geistigen, intellektuellen oder sensorischen Einschränkungen gleichberechtigten Zugang zu digitalen Produkten und Services bekommen.
Warum betrifft uns das ĂĽberhaupt?
Auch wenn WebPros (und damit Sitejet) offiziell in der Schweiz und den USA sitzt, bieten wir unsere Produkte im EU-Raum an – und damit gilt der EAA auch für uns. Genauso wie bei der DSGVO müssen wir sicherstellen, dass unsere Produkte rechtskonform sind, um weiter im EU-Markt aktiv bleiben zu dürfen.
Was heiĂźt das konkret fĂĽr dich als Sitejetter?
Websites sind nicht von einer Übergangsfrist betroffen – das heißt:
Alle geschäftlich genutzten Websites, die mit Sitejet gebaut werden, müssen ab dem 28. Juni 2025 barrierefrei sein.
Wir sorgen dafür, dass du mit Sitejet alle nötigen Tools an die Hand bekommst – sowohl technisch als auch redaktionell. Dazu gehören z. B.:
- saubere, semantische HTML-Strukturen
- UnterstĂĽtzung fĂĽr Screenreader
- ausreichender Farbkontrast
- Alternativtexte fĂĽr Bilder, Videos & Icons
- Tastatur-Navigation

Und: In der Community gibt es jetzt auch eine eigene Kategorie „Compliance“, wo ihr euch über rechtliche Vorgaben und Regeln rund ums Thema Website austauschen könnt.
Bitte postet dort immer verlässliche Quellen und seht davon ab eine eine Rechtsberatung zu geben. Und wie immer gilt: bleibt sachlich – wir schauen in dieser Kategorie genau hin. Wichtig: Nennt immer das Land/Region, auf die sich eure Infos beziehen.
Eigene Testtools?
Aktuell planen wir kein eigenes Tool, um zu prĂĽfen, ob eine Website alle rechtlichen Anforderungen erfĂĽllt.
Uns ist auch nichts Offizielles seitens der EU oder deutschen Behörden bekannt. Wenn ihr gute Tools kennt und nutzt, postet sie gern in die Kommentare – wir sammeln und ergänzen sie hier.
Ein spezielles Tool wie Eye-Able ist ebenfalls nicht in Planung.
Was liegt in deiner Verantwortung als Website-Ersteller*in?
Wir liefern dir die Technik – du musst sie richtig einsetzen:
- Inhalte klar und logisch strukturieren
- Aussagekräftige Alt-Texte verwenden
- Auf Kontrast und Lesbarkeit achten
- Regelmäßig mit Barrierefreiheits-Tools testen
Was passiert sonst noch bei WebPros?
Auch andere Produkte von WebPros (z. B. Plesk Store, cPanel Store, WHMCS) werden für Barrierefreiheit vorbereitet – hier gilt meistens eine Übergangsfrist bis 28. Juni 2030.
Aber: Unsere Websites, öffentlichen Videos und Web-Builder (Sitejet & Web Presence Builder) müssen jetzt schon fit sein. Technisch gesehen fällt der Website Builder zwar nicht direkt unter den EAA – aber wir setzen es trotzdem um.
