[CW 29.2022] First round of collections improvements and new website template

Hey Sitejetters!

We have a new release for you

1. We are one step closer to whitelabeling Sitejet. You can now add a whitelabel favicon. Woohooo! Go to Manage Team > Whitelabel and upload your very own favicon to make Sitejet even more your own
   

   

2. We dropped a new website template: It’s called BLOGGER. You might have guessed it already, buuuuut this one is focusing on websites for sharing content and ideas in form of blogs. And it’s such a great starting point to make it your own - so go ahead and design and blog away! https://www.template-blogger.de.rs/
   

   

3. We got to work and improved the Backup Restore performance. It’s now better - and faster!

4. We are currently working on improving the Collections feature! And this release marks the starting point for further collections improvements we will drop in the upcoming months

Here is everything Collections:

First things first - we renamed some of the Collections-related words:

OLD	NEW
Collection Container	Collection Listing
Collection Item Template	Single Page Layout
Manage item/Edit item	Manage content/ Edit content

Although the wordings are new, the functionality stays the same:

• The Collection Listing is still the overview of all your collection items on a page
• The Single Page Layout is still the template that is used as the layout for all items of a collection
• Manage content & edit content still allows you to work on the content and items of your collections

Collection Update #2:

You will now find the Single Page Layout of a collection under “Pages” which allows you to translate the Single Page Layout as you can do with other pages of your website. A Single Page Layout will be indicated by a collections icon in front of its name.

Please keep in mind that the Single Page Layout is not a separate subpage and thus will not give you the same settings as you have for other pages listed here. You will be able to:

• Change the name of the Single Page Layout (not the same as the name of the collection. E.g. your collection name could be Blog, but the Single Page Layout name would be Blog Post)
• Adjust the Prefix URL. What does that mean you ask? Well: To display an item this URL is added in front of each item slug. E.g. If we add /blog-post as prefix URL here and one of our items in this collection has the slug /first-item the URL for this item will be: example.com/blog-post/first-item. However, the URL example.com/blog-post is not available as a separate page.
• Add a subdomain. You know the drill here

Collection Update #3:

When you are working in the Single Page Layout - you know, to adjust the layout of your items, duuuh - you will see a widget in the top left corner that not only explains what the Single Page Layout is, but also allows you to preview the items of that collection. Simply click on the dropdown field and you will see up to 250 items here - so goodbye limit of 10 items You can now preview ALL your items (as long as you don’t have more than 250 items in one collection ). This is perfect to spot check if the content of each item matches the layout you are designing. And if you want to adjust the content of the item you are previewing simply click on “Edit content”. Click on “Configure collection” to get to the collection settings like the fields.

Is the widget bothering you in the left corner? Simply drag and drop it to another place.

Collection Update #4 & #5:

We divided the Collection category in the left content sidebar into two subcategories:

1. Collection Templates - obviously, here you will find all collection templates that we have in store for you. All templates - except for the Collection Listing template - come with prefigured designs and placeholder content.
   Speaking of Collection Templates - we added a new one: Wireframe!
   This is a basic list setup with a placeholder image and content. A great starting point for any kind of collection, e.g. a blog, news, recipes, courses, and many more! (Btw. that’s update #5 )
2. Collection Features - here you will find the search and filter features

Collection Update #6:

We made some adjustments in the collections edit panels (the panels on the left side):

1. We split the collection settings from the container settings. So the container settings now have their own tab.
2. You can now access all collection-related views from an edit panel. This means you should be able to access “Manage content” to add or edit items and open the Single Page Layout to work on the layout template of all items.
3. “Show pages” is now called “Pagination” - makes more sense, right?

Collection Update #7:

It’s now super easy to spot elements that are nested in a collection listing or item AND if these elements are bound to a collection field or not simply by looking for the collection icon in the element toolbar.

• Filled collection icon: Element is assigned to a collection field
  

• Outlined collection icon: Element is not assigned to a collection - which means the content will remain static
  

Aaaand, that’s about it for the collection updates - at least for now. But keep an eye out for more updates in the collection :eyes

Hier findest du eine Liste mit allen Collection Updates:

Ganz wichtig - Wir haben einige Collections-bezogene Wörter umbenannt:

Einträge verwalten / Einträge bearbeiten	Content verwalten / Content bearbeiten

Auch wenn sich die Wörter geändert haben, die Funktionalität bleibt gleich:

• Die Collection-Auflistung ist immer noch die Übersicht über die Collections Einträge auf der Unterseite
• Das Einzelseiten-Layout ist immer noch das Template, welches als Template für das Layout aller Einträge einer Collection genutzt wird
• Content verwalten & Content bearbeiten bietet immer noch eine Übersicht über alle Einträge und ermöglicht das Bearbeiten bzw. Hinzufügen von Einträgen

Collection Update #2:

Unter dem Menüpunkt “Seiten” werden jetzt die Einzelseiten-Layouts gelistet, d.h. Sie können übersetzt und für mehrsprachige Websites genutzt werden. Das Einzelseiten-Layout wird durch ein Collection-Icon vor dem Namen gekennzeichnet.

Bitte beachte, dass das Einzelseiten-Layout keine eigenständige Unterseite ist und somit wirst du dort auch nicht die gleichen Einstellungsmöglichkeiten finden wie bei den Unterseiten. Dafür findest du die folgenden Einstellungen:

• Name des Einzelseiten-Layouts - der Name des Einzelseiten-Layouts ist nicht das gleiche wie der Name der Collection. Wenn die Collection z.B. Blog heißt, dann heißt das Einzelseiten-Layout bspw. Blog Post

• Präfix-URL. Was ist damit gemeint? Um einen Eintrag anzuzeigen, wird diese URL vor dem Slug des Eintrages hinzugefügt. Wenn wir bspw. hier die URL /blog-post nutzen und einer unserer Einträge in dieser Collection hat den slug /erster-eintrag, dann lautet die URL für diesen Eintrag example.com/blog-post/erster-eintrag. Die URL example.com/blog-post ist allerdings nicht für als eigenständige Seite aufrufbar.

• Subdomain. Diese Einstellung sollte bekannt sein

Collection Update #3:

Wenn du an dem Einzelseiten-Layout arbeitest, siehst du in der linken oberen Ecke ein Widget, dass nicht nur erklärt, was das Einzelseiten-Layout ist, sondern, dass auch die Möglichkeit bietet bis zu 250 Einträge (statt 10 Einträge) der Collections im Vorschau-Modus zu betrachten. Wooohoo! Damit kannst du quasi alle deine EInträge prüfen (außer du hast mehr als 250 Einträge :D) und (stichprobenartig) gucken, ob das Layout, was du designst, zum Content von allen Einträgen passt.

Solltest du den Content eines Eintrags anschauen, kannst du einfach auf “Content verwalten” klicken. Um zu den Collections-Einstellungen zu gelangen, um bspw. An den Feldern zu arbeiten, klicke auf “Collection anpassen”.

Und sollte dir das Widget oben links mal im Weg sein, kannst du es einfach an eine andere Position schieben.

Collection Update #4 & #5:

Wir haben die Collections-Kategorie in der linken Content Sidebar in zwei Unterkategorien getrennt.

1. Collection Templates - hier findest du alle Collections Templates, die wir zu bieten haben. Alle Templates - außer das Template “Collection-Auflistung” - kommt mit einer designten Collection inkl. Platzhalter-Content.
   Apropos Collection Template, wir haben ein neues Template hinzugefügt: Wireframe!
   Hier findest du ein simples Listen-Design mit Platzhalter-Bild und Content. Der perfekte Ausgangspunkt für jede Art von Collection, z.B. ein Blog, eine News-Seite, für Rezepte, Kurse und so vieles mehr! Viel Spaß beim Ausprobieren und Anpassen! (Das ist übrigens Update #5)

2. Collection Features - hier findest du die Such- und Filterfunktion

Collection Update #6:

Wir haben ein paar Anpassungen an den Collection Panels vorgenommen (die Einstellungspanels, die sich auf der linken Seite öffnen):

1. Collections-Einstellungen und Container-Einstellungen wurden getrennt. Container-Einstellugen haben jetzt ihren eigenen Tab.
2. Du kannst jetzt alle Collections-bezogenen Ansichten aus diesem Panel öffnen, d.h. du kannst auf das Einzelseiten-Layout zugreifen, um das Layout der Collection-Einträge zu bearbeiten oder “Content verwalten” öffnen, um den Content deiner Collection zu bearbeiten.
3. “Seiten anzeigen” heißt jetzt “Pagination”

Collection Update #7:

Du kannst ab sofort super schnell erkennen, ob ein Element innerhalb eines Collection-Auflistung oder Collection-Eintrags ist UND ob dieses Element mit einem Collection-Feld verbunden ist oder nicht, indem du nach einem Collections-Icon in der Element Toolbar guckst.

• Befülltes Collection-Icon: Das Element ist mit einem Collection-Feld
  

• “Leeres” Collection-Icon: Das Element ist nicht mit einem Collection-Feld verbunden. Der Inhalt bleibt also statisch.
  

Uuuuund das war es erstmal von unseren Collection Updates - für heute. Du darfst gespannt bleiben, welche weiteren Collection-Verbesserungen noch kommen

The new blog/collection features look interesting. I will check it out asap.

Thanks for the new blogger template. I recon your designers are all men? Again the template shows a very male, technical style. Which is fine for many people for sure. I - as a webdesigner for female entrepreneurs - am still missing some more “lady like” templates with personality.

Nevertheless, thanks for your engagement and improvement on the plattform and the templates by now!!

There will be more “feminine”-colored templates coming soon Overall templates are supposed to give you inspiration and/or a starting point to make them your own and to adjust them to your needs. With a few small changes like changing global design settings e.g. color and fonts and switching up 1-2 images already have a huge impact and suddenly a “male-like” template becomes a “feminine-like” template

However, I see your point and I think we have some great upcoming templates for you. Keep an eye out for those template announcements

Hi Franzi,

I know with some global design changes each template looks completely different. And I know that it is just a starting point - so actually I check the features of a template when choosing one (instead of design criteria). I would love to use a template galery as a show case opportunity but this doesn’t work for me.
Really looking forward to some more beautifully designes, female styled themes.

Is it possible in the pagination settings to turn on showing the page numbers? I’d like the number of pages to be shown in addition to the “previous” and “next” buttons so that users know how many “nexts” there are.

For instance, here’s a standard pagination with numbers turned on and with 17 pages of results:

The more supporter a feature has the better the chance for it to be selected by us.
